The Role:
We are seeking a skilled Data Architect to design and implement scalable, enterprise-grade data storage solutions for asset management systems. You will architect data pipelines, define database schemas and establish data governance standards that power interactive geospatial dashboards and analytics platforms. Working closely with GIS architects, ETL developers and client stakeholders, you will ensure robust data integrity, performance and long-term scalability across multi-source infrastructure datasets. This role is primarily remote (US-based) and you need to occasional travel to Leesburg, VA and client sites in the USA.

• Architect and design data storage solutions (PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Azure, cloud data lakes) to support enterprise asset management analytics and geospatial queries.
• Develop logical and physical data models, database schemas and ETL-compatible structures for multi-source infrastructure data (inspection reports, financial ledgers, CADD files, geodatabases).
• Create and maintain data dictionaries, naming conventions, metadata standards and field definitions to ensure data consistency and governance.
• Assess current database environments, identify gaps and recommend scalable, commercially supported technologies with implementation roadmaps and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with ETL developers and GIS teams to optimize data pipelines, query performance and backend integration for ArcGIS Enterprise and Experience Builder applications.
• Produce technical documentation, architecture diagrams and implementation guides for client staff and future maintainers.

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.

5+ years designing and implementing enterprise database architectures, data models and storage solutions for large-scale systems.

• Proven expertise with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, relational database design and cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP).
• Hands-on experience with data warehousing, data lakes or analytics platforms (Databricks, Delta Lake or similar).
• Strong background in data governance, schema design, ETL data structure and geospatial data management.
• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS GeoAnalytics Engine or enterprise geodatabase is preferred.
• Cloud certifications (Azure Data Engineer, AWS Database Speciality) experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with ETL pipelines, Python/SQL scripting and infrastructure data domains is preferred.
